Maltese Cross 30 Poems in 30 Days: True Love (3/30)

True Love
by Daniel R Stout

True love waits
by the elevator.
She is going down ten floors
to the streets
of the city.
I walk towards the elevator
and notice her smile.
It is welcoming.
“What took so long?”
she asks.
“I was just…thinking,”
I say, and it is true.
We’ve been waiting for
each other,
in different ways, but our goal
was the same.
She waits
by the elevator.
I lock the door of the apartment,
and we descend to the sidewalk.
She has me, and I have her.
And that is
true love.
