Maltese Cross Amadeus turns a ripe old 250 today

The Mozart EffectTo celebrate the 250th birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the university’s classical station KSUI is playing Mozart all day. Lucky you, they stream over the internet. You’ll need Real Player to listen to the stream, which is here.

Herr Mozart was born on 27 January 1756 in Salzburg. We recall that our blogmate Faust Gertz once said that Amadeus was overrated, and that Beethoven was far better. We wonder out loud if he still subscribes to this view, which is perfectly fine if he does. But unfortunately we’ll have to wait until 17 December 2020 for Ludwig’s 250th. Perhaps KSUI can be enticed to have a Beethoven day before then. Wouldn’t that be fun?—a battle of the composers. They could do that during a fund drive—play a work by Mozart and see how many people call in with pledges and then play a piece by Beethoven and compare. I won’t even charge KSUI for that idea because I want them to keep doing what they do. (Thx to Margalea.)

As an aside: my personal request to KSUI is to have a late night weekend show of twentieth century music. I’d certainly be willing to host the show, given my vast radio experience with KWLC and KRUI. That would be wonderful.
