teh Sun Ra Radio visits KFAI

Sun_Ra_at_piano_by_Hans_Kumpf.jpg

I’ve been working around the clock this week and listening to a lot of radio. Tonight, I listened to the first of two Sun Ra specials on KFAI-FM’s Collective Eye. Curt McNamara, filling in for regular host Janis Lane-Ewart, played a variety of Sonny’s music (including some out of print Saturn and Horo vinyl), read from Robert Campbell’s Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame Lecture, and spoke by phone to a Sun Ra enthusiast. I enjoyed hearing someone else’s take on an all Sun Ra show and was happy to hear some of my favorite tunes too.

You can listen to Curt’s next all Sun Ra show on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 10:30 PM CST on KFAI-FM 90.3 Minneapolis/106.7 St Paul. Tonight’s show should be available in the program archives for the next two weeks.

P.S.
I wish KFAI’s streams were of better quality. The archives and main live stream is RealAudio 20k/44k. There are two “experimental” live IceCast streams (24k mono and 64k stereo), but the 64k stereo stream cut out a couple time during the two hours I listened.
P.P.S.
Eric Fifteen’s Voice Cried Softly sounds like a pretty rockin’ show too.
