i’ve been thinking about differences tonight. differences in places — differences in cities. question: do the cultural offerings of this city make up for its shortcomings? i’ve been looking down long rows of gravestones and seeing how they all make patterns that are understandable. the patterns of the dead are simply circles repeating unto themselves. the ripples don’t flow outward as they used to — the trees are quiet tonight. the wind has died down and maybe there’s a hint of snow. what will the future bring?
i’m listening to sam knutson tonight. he’s a local musician. i wish i could tell you where to buy his cd’s — other than going down to sal’s. is there beauty in artistic obscurity?
it’s been a while since i last updated this blog. my hit logs reflect how i’ve paid the price for this. the search engine traffic keeps me going. weird searches for all manner of things. seems like the web still serves a useful purpose in terms of personal expression. // had a presentation to give this evening. the folk were captivated and it went well. i spoke for a while on academic journals and the crisis in scholarly publishing. fairly interesting stuff.
those long lines of gravestones have pointed me in a different direction than i had expected to be. i’m seeking a base of operations — i’m seeking a h.q. for the manufacturedenvironments directives. this is, i’m thinking of buying a place. i’ve got it all picked out. it’s in my mind’s eye and it’s a nearly perfect spot. on the east side, secluded, but with easy access to the downtown district.
instead of being long, the days have been short. i ventured north for thanksgiving and had my fill. i have pictures in my mind of the place to be, of the woman to be — of a coming together of planets, stars and other celestial entities. they’re coming in line. the movements have a mysteriousness about them but still i wait — my patience has paid off and soon will come the realization of these shortterm (and some longterm) goals dreams objectives. bear with me.
