tonight i’m listening to underworld — “beaucoup fish.” i’ve been spending time thinking about the future. the days are rolling into one it seems and the only stand against this kind of freefall of time is to gather up my strength and develop some goals. i’ve been sharpening the vision of three years out, five years out, ten years out. clarity in the long-range helps inform decisions of the short-term. i offered some advice to a friend who was asking for some. i said, clarify your vision in the long-term and these decisions that are bothering you in the short-term will become more clear. in addition, i added, drop these thoughts deep into your subconscious. let your mind do the work, simply. the answer is within you. it’s a matter of finding the right pathway to that answer. find quiet time. find time to sit and write down what you want to do. write out all the options. write your goals. write the possibilities. don’t allow doubt to enter your mind. find time to do this repeatedly, whether before retiring for the night or early in the morning. the extremes of the day are well suited for such pursuits.
i’m thinking of the future tonight. i’m thinking of kerouac tonight. i’m thinking of words tonight. i’m thinking of writing tonight. there are so many possibilities.
i was looking at some photos someone sent me of her child. a fresh young man of three and a half years. i’ve seen him twice. once as an infant and once at two and a half years. great promises in this child. [but will there be another? we ask]
children are a burden to some and a delight to others. i refrain from commenting on this. i do not have children, nor have any such plans in the [near] future. i see the sun setting on the horizon, thinking, what are we coming to? i read tonight about how nasa will be turning off their satellite that measures the ozone layer of the earth. it’s a billion dollar satellite that costs them $10 mil. a year to maintain. was this a decision made in the currently conservative political climate?
classes resume on monday. i’ve got a busy weekend ahead of me preparing. take care, friends. and do write.
